Press release, 08/05/2014: Start Strong pays tribute to Frances Fitzgerald TD
PRESS RELEASE: Start Strong pays tribute to Frances Fitzgerald TD 8 May 2014
Start Strong - a coalition of organisations and individuals seeking to advance children's early care and education in Ireland - today paid tribute to the achievements of Frances Fitzgerald TD during her time as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
Ciairín de Buis, Start Strong's Director, said that Frances Fitzgerald was a great campaigner for children's rights and that her commitment and energy will be missed by all those who worked with her.
"Frances Fitzgerald fought for children's interests on many fronts: in the referendum on children's rights, in establishing the Child and Family Agency, in defending the Free Pre-School Year, and in seeking to raise the quality of early years services," Ms de Buis said.
"In Start Strong, we particularly welcomed her initiative in announcing the development of Ireland's first National Early Years Strategy, and the progress she has made in developing it. We wish her well in her new post as Minister for Justice and Equality, and we look forward to continuing to work with her in relation to the forthcoming Family Leave Bill."
"We warmly congratulate her successor as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Charlie Flanagan TD. In particular, we look forward to supporting him as he finalises and publishes the National Early Years Strategy in the near future."
