Press Release, 24/03/2014: Start Strong and Childminding Ireland very concerned at worsening supervision and regulation of non-relative childminders
Start Strong and Childminding Ireland are jointly writing today to all Oireachtas members expressing their concern at the worsening situation in relation to the supervision and regulation of non-relative childminders. Over 50,000 young children are being cared for by paid childminders, the vast majority of whom are exempt from regulation.
The two organisations have welcomed a recent announcement by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald TD, that she wishes to develop a suitable approach to the regulation of childminders in consultation with stakeholders in the sector. In this context, Start Strong and Childminding Ireland are saying that legislative change will be required as well as Garda vetting. Read more here.
